Duration: 10/19/2009 to 01/16/2010 + CTH

Location:Columbia, SC

Hours: M -TH 9am 6:15 and Fri 9am - 5, possible evening and weekends with advanced notice.

Acts as a liaison between the school and the students with respect to admissions, degree options, requirements and progress, and also provides students with access to information on school policy, practices and rules.

Plays a lead role in resolving student complaints to ensure resolution toward corrective action. Addresses and/or participates in addressing student grievances and appeals, to bring resolution to issues.

Audits student schedules for candidacy for graduation, as determined by university policy, and provides related information to appropriate campus personnel as requested.

Plays a lead role in communicating and advising students who have academic or attendance problems to ensure resolution toward corrective action.

Understands testing programs and makes recommendations to students as a degree completion option.

Monitors attendance, academic and enrollment progress of students to ensure that students comply with University policies and procedures.

Acts as a key resource in the development of the academic advisement department by participating in staff selection, training, and evaluation activities.

Provides forecasting information toward the preparation of the schools calendar of courses to ensure the campuses are offering appropriate courses and students are being correctly placed.

Plays a lead role with student re-entry efforts to increase enrollment and retention by performing duties which may include but are not limited to, generating and analyzing reports to capture pertinent information, contacting students and conducting appointment for re-enrollment and providing university policy and procedure information.

Advises students on impact of enrollment status in regards to financial options and obligations and develops remediation plans where appropriate.

Performs research and response to inquiries and concerns regarding student financial matters.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
Generally, this position has no supervisory responsibility. However, it may provide guidance and direction to other positions associated with Academic Advisement roles.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
A Bachelor\'s degree in business, education, psychology or related field required.

Two years experience in student services, social services, training, development, or related positions required to perform the academic management and advisement roles indicated above.

Must have a moderate level of analytical ability to perform conflict resolution and academic advisement as described above.

Incumbents must collect, analyze and interpret data in order to solve problems and/or trouble shoot potential issues.

Must possess a significant level of interpersonal and communication skills.

Incumbents must be able to lead, communicate and persuade others, and/or interact effectively with others in difficult situations.

Must have the ability to professionally and effectively deliver presentations to small and large groups.

Must be results oriented and able to manage various projects or tasks at one time.
